South Dakota
We went to South Dakota in July 1983. Our first stop was the Corn Palace in Mitchell. (I thought it was boring!) We then traveled westward and stopped at Wall Drug. You have to stop at Wall Drug because that is all you read about all the way to the Black Hills! You have to see what it's like, after all, you do feel like you know the place! We then buzzed through the Badlands Loop. Very beautiful! First of all South Dakota depends on tourism, well at least until Gateway came to the state, so everything is for the tourist. We visited Bear Country USA, Reptile Gardens, The Presidential Wax Museum and a couple of other Wax Museums, a Marine Life Aquarium and Mt Rushmore. Mt. Rushmore looks the same in every picture I have ever seen and just like the ones you will see on this page. But to be there is truly awesome!! The monument is awesome! We also went to Deadwood, where you will find Boot Hill where Calamity Jane and James Butler Hickok, Alias, "Wild Bill" are buried. The scenery there is magnificant! One day we went to Custer where the Crazy Horse monument is under construction and where you can visit the Flintstones. The kids were little then and really enjoyed it! We visited a cave there, which was different, but we are glad we saw it. We went to a Rainbow Trout hatchery and never saw so many trout in our entire lives. All in all it is a place where I hope to visit in the future again.
